Spring Sprints National - March 20, 2005

March Madness in Memphis

The title stays, apparently the webmistress has ESP.  However, from special correspondent, Bill Douglas, Car 07, his view of the Sunday race. (Part of the narrative was deleted...ahhh, due to space issues.)

"A competitor backed his trailer into a water faucet. The water line was broken at ground level and a small stream of water began flowing across the track at the entrance to corner 7. Corner 7 and 8 are both surrounded by concrete walls so crossing a stream, even a small one, on dry racing tires promised to be exciting.

The races proceeded as scheduled, with a few spins but no major incidents. Corners 5 and 6 are marked by white painted lines and cones. Shortly after the start of the race, the cones were scattered at corner 6, so cutting the corner seemed to be the order of the day. Following the race, all the cars were sent to impound. Cutting the corner violated the "airport rule", resulting in a 10 second penalty for each occurrence. One driver had a total of 21 violations. Only the SRF winning driver had "0" violations. The final posting was protested. Results of the protest are not known at this time.

Even with 10 violations, 100 seconds of penalty time, I moved from 7th to 4th. Greg Farrar, who finished 6th, but had few violations, moved into 2nd.

Bottom line, a fun race weekend with good friends, good food and the just enough racing politics to keep everyone confused."

Bill also notes that Jason Kvbasak and Mark Jurczyk, Car 08, ( you're trying to kill the webmistress aren't you?) shared the infamous cow car, so they are Elite Autosport assisted drivers.  Also on Saturday, he noted that Greg Farrar was breaking in an engine and didn't drive above 5000RPM and that Jeff Barrow started last and finished early to save his tires for the National.
Race results. Of course, you know what this means. Bill's winning the Elite Contest!
