Firecracker Double Regional

Douglas, Ferro Earn Poles and Split Wins at the Firecracker (Didn't I just do this headline?)

It was hot and sticky, what else would you expect at the Firecracker Double Regional? As Race Group 5, the SRFs had a lot of opportunity to enjoy the weather.  And, if you weren't under the "Big Top" you were in a pretty small group at the track. We welcome back Larry Fuerst, Car 04, who has been racing on a limited basis and newcomer (sort of) Shannon Raglin, Car 03. Shannon raced with Elite about 9 years ago and is now back to take up that "hobby."  Congrats to Dave Shapiro, Car 02, who had the fastest lap on Saturday's race and I think, his best finish.

The race on Saturday was very good, lots of passing throughout the field...it was like watching 5 or 6 races in one, as each group was hotly contesting every position. Even our winner, Bill Douglas, lost the lead for a few laps, before regaining it on the lap that counted, the last one.  Congrats to Bill, Rick, Mike and Dave, for their trips to impound. On Sunday, Mother Nature decide to play with the SRF group, starting a light rain about 30 minutes before race time.  Everyone was scratching their heads and looking at the clouds...all in an attempt to determine what Mother Nature might do.  (She didn't do much except give Beau a migraine.) As the race started, the rain let up and the event  was on. An incident in corner 1 about midway through the field, caused the competitors to scatter to avoid the spinning car...Doug Loughead, Car 34, lost his tail, but in a determined effort, he kept his place throughout the race and even managed to pass people.
