Bach, McCann Finish 2nd, 3rd in First Regional, Douglas finished 2nd in Second Regional, Brown Takes Pole in First Race

Okay, kids! It's going to be a long summary-with 35 drivers in the Regional, the web mistress has been typing her fingers off!!! And, no she's not wearing leather today, either. First, congrats to Becky Bach, Car 22 and Mike McCann, Car 38, for their 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the Saturday Regional. In that race, 8 of the Top 10 cars were Elite drivers. In order: Bill Douglas, Car 7, 4th; Mike Canfield, Car 9, 5th; Dale Brown, Car 21, 6th; Mel Boldt, Car 80, 7th; Jim Ferro, Car 37, 8th; David Shapiro, Car 02, 9th; Keith Conroy, Car 35, 11th; Jack Aten, Car 04, 12th; Bob Ablard, Car 66, 14th; Doug Loughead, Car 34, 15th; Lee Trainor, Car 0, 17th; Bob Shineflug, Car 77, 21st; Jack Amstadt, Car 2, 25th; Scott Sanda, Car 03, 29th; Sean Gladden, Car 23, 31st; Bob Lojkovic, Car 01, 32nd;  and Theresa Zeimer, Car 3, 33rd.

Race 1 Summary

The race was intense, with sentimental favorite, Dale Brown, Car 21, taking the pole and remaining in the lead for 12 laps, until he was passed in corner one by David Watson. With time left and the leaders coming up on back markers, his chances still looked good. On lap 16, the opportunity arose, Dave Watson was held up by a slower car that had slowed down even more for a yellow flag for Brian Kennedy, who was just coming onto the track after corner 6. With Dave blocked by the back marker, Dale passed Dave, Brian and had corner 7, until the back marker came down on him.he slammed on the breaks and spun, ending up in 6th.It could have been one of the greatest comebacks...but, maybe next time. Becky Bach, Car 22, also had a good race, after a less than great start, she passed several cars and came in second. There was also a lot of tight racing with the Elite drivers in positions 5-9...just shows you can have good clean fun during a race.

Race 2 Summary

As beautiful as the weather was on Saturday, as unpredictable and crappy it was on Sunday. The first qualifying session was pretty wet, the second one was mostly dry and the race was very, very wet!!! In fact, a number of drivers chose not to start the race...including Keith Conroy, Car 35, who qualified so well in 8th. (This is the last time we rub it in, Keith, promise.) David Watson had the pole and kept the lead for sometime. But our own Bill Douglas, Car 7, chased him down and followed him very closely for about 5 laps. He tried a number of maneuvers to either rattle Dave or get by him, unfortunately none of them worked before the checkered flag flew! And, even with the rain, there was a lot of tight racing...Mel Boldt, Mike Canfield, Jim Ferro and a couple of other drivers battled for positions 5-9, again. Congrats to all the Elite Rental Drivers, Dave, Scott, Jack and Bob,  who toughed out the race...running in the rain is not for the feint of heart.  Also, no incidences to report during the entire race...also amazing, given the brutal nature of the rain! Also, the web mistress has heard Mike McCann complain that he's too old to be competing anymore....and yet he earned one podium finish and nearly got a second podium in this race!
