Canfield Takes the Pole for the Long Race A
crisp fall weekend lead to some great racing during the Chicagoland
Sportscar Club's Long Race. It's a 50 lap event that either
requires a fuel stop or a highly conservative race style to complete
the event. Also, many different classes of cars compete in this
event. Elite Drivers, Larry
Fuerst, Car 04,
Mike Canfield, Car 9, and Mel
Boldt, Car 31, went with opposing
strategies--Larry and Mike went all out with fuel stops in middle of
the race and Mel drove conservatively. Mike
Canfield had the pole (Congrats
Mike!) and lead the first six laps of the race. At lap 17, Mike
tangled with a lapped car and it, sadly, took him out of the race. At
the halfway point, the Elite Team had a fabulous pit stop that kept
Larry in the thick of things. Mel took the lead at Lap 39, but
Larry was gaining ground with every lap. Mel kept the lead through up
until the very last lap, where Larry passed him for the win. It was a
very exciting and enjoyable race to watch. Other
Elite drivers finishing well included: Theresa Ziemer, Car 3,
who finished 3rd in the Spec Racer class and 8th overall. Also,
a special congrats to Lexi,
Beau's daughter, who took a podium 3rd place finish in the Big Wheel
Race held earlier in the day!
