Wins, Douglas Finishes 4th, Stolz Finish 5th, Dirienzo 6th, during a
foggy race
Neither rain, nor
sleet or fog shall stay these couriers from their appointed
rounds....am I talking about the postal service? Nope, just racing at
Road America for the Cat National. Qualifying on Saturday took place
after one of those widely scattered rain storms pelted the track. On
Sunday, the racers were greeted with thick fog. So thick, in fact,
that the warmup session was held on standing yellow flags, so no
passing was allowed.
However, the fog did
lift enough for the drivers to see one another by the time the race
started. There was lots of close racing in the early laps, as drivers
gingerly tested the track for grip. As usual, Jim
Marinangel Car 5,
started from the pole and stayed there.
The best race on the track involved Bill
Douglas Car 7, Mike Dirienzo Car 82 and Peter
Stolz Car 02, who were vying for 4th, 5th and 6th during
the closing laps of the race. The results, Douglas 4th, Stolz 5th and
Dirienzo 6th. Other Elite drivers finishing well (this is based
on webmaster memory, as I don't have completed results, yet so forgive
any lapses...)Mike McCann Car 38, 7th; Webb Bassick Car 29, 8th;
Jim Simaras Car 95, 10th; Bob Ablard Car 66, 11th; Steve
Anastasi Car 2, 13th; Steve Nekich
Car 6, 17th; Mel Boldt Car 8, 18th; Dale Brown Car 21 20th; Brian
Riese Car 4, 21st; Jim Victor Car 04; 23rd, and
Bernie Schatz, 24th. |
